Knowledgebase: Registrar Transfer
Can I change the Registrar for a domain name which has expired?

The New Zealand Registry allows .nz domain names to be transferred between registrars during the 90 day ‘pending release’ period after they have expired.

There is no restriction on registrar transfers during this time and the losing registrar must still provide the UDAI for the domain name to the registrant (domain holder) upon request.

TLD domain names can still be transferred to another registrar for a short time after they expire; however the Registrar-Lock must be removed prior to the domain name being transferred.

If the Registrar-Lock is still in place after the domain name expires, then the current registrar must still remove the Registrar-Lock upon request from the registrant.
